About Me

Hello there!About Mat A.

My name is Mat A. and I am all about working towards living a complete life.

What is a complete life?  Well to me it’s about being conscious of the many components of my life and continuously altering, tweaking, adjusting, or sometimes completely changing the things that aren’t working for me.  In this regard I am and have always been very involved and into self improvement.  I enjoy continual learning and using different resources to enhance my life in a wide variety of areas to make it a great place to be.  I heard a quote once how a plane is adjusting it’s course 95% or more of the time, constantly changing a little bit here and there in an effort to get to where it’s headed.  This sums it up well.

The reason why I created this site was to help folks like yourself have resources to assist in making the changes you’d like to make to work towards achieving a complete life.  As men all of our lives are overfull between work, health, family, kids, friends, social aspects, etc., that it’s so easy to get caught up in the “hamster wheel” of life.  You blink and your middle age (like me) and thinking what just happened.   I do the same thing every day and it’s become a vicious cycle of working to live.  And you think “this is life?”  And for most people it is.  But it doesn’t have to be.

If you see anything on my site that is interesting to you I’d love to hear your comments and/or feedback.  I really enjoy good dialogue surrounding different things that have helped men improve their lives in any and all areas.  This is how we all learn.

So a little bit about me:

I have turned 50 in the recent past.  In many ways this was not as big a deal as 40 was to me.  For some reason the whole 40 thing was a big deal.  As I mentioned I have been a long time self improvement kind of guy.  This happened in a strange way.   During my extended college years I woke up one day after a long night out and remember thinking to myself “It’s time to make a change”.  It was one of those epiphanies we get every once in a while if we are lucky.  And from that day on I became a guy who always wanted to improve my workouts, make more money on my job, learn how to start improve my diet, learn how to invest my own money in the stock market and on and on.  And so it went until my mid-40’s.

So in my mid-40’s something happened in my life that quite literally made the world turn upside down for me.  When it happened my vision literally tunneled like an old time movie.  I felt surreal, something I’d never felt in my life.  Down became up, sky became ground, black became white, and after a while everything became gray.  I have always been a positive, upbeat kind of guy so I simply didn’t know how to deal with these strange uncharted waters.  I became depressed for the first time in my life.  I went deep down a dark lonely hole for several years.  I tried anti-depressents for about 3 days and they made me feel so weird I stopped taking them and simply existed in the strange place that the inside of my head had become.

Then after living in a depressive lonely fog for nearly 3 years I had another epiphany.  The day it happened I quit smoking (I had quit years before but fired back up, pun intended, when the event happened) and never looked back.  I started waking up from my fog and every day made a conscious effort to build my own complete life.  And to say it wasn’t easy is an understatement.  I challenged a lot of my normal way of looking at life.  Through this process I have learned many things and in my own personal opinion have evolved massively.  So in many ways the big bad event that happened spurred me to the biggest growth and eye opening changes I’ve ever experienced.  As they say, it’s darkest before the dawn.  And my dawn has come to be a lot brighter.

If you ever need any advice or support regarding how you are working to live a complete life and would like some thoughts or suggestions I would love to connect.  I believe we all learn from each other and if I can offer anything that is helpful I would be more than happy to.  Feel free to leave you comment below and I check the site regularly and am always updating it with ideas and information I find relevant to living a complete life.  I’d love to connect with you on FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram, whatever works.

Thanks for reading, I look forward to our journey!
