Awesome family entertainment time? I was a little dry on ideas for writing this post today. Then I thought hey, write about what a great time I had last night. I’ve been traveling for work this past week and got back in town Friday night. As soon as I got home I changed clothes and headed to my father in laws house. The reason? My brother in law and sister in law and their 2 sons were in town from Colorado. So what usually happens is we go to my wife’s fathers house for food and beverages. Good conversation, catching up, that sort of thing. My wife and oldest daughter were there and we had a nice time. And that of course was awesome family entertainment. But wait, there’s more.
Saturday
As is usual with my wife’s side of the family there were no plans yesterday. To be honest they are all pretty bad a making plans. So Saturday morning my wife and I were puttering around the house when she made a suggestion. We’d talked about going to an October Fest that was close by but it looked like rain off and on all day. My wife suggested having everyone over to our house. So we invited them and and some close friends and voila, we have a crowd of 14. My wife made me to to Target so she could buy one of her favorite games – Cards Against Humanity. If you don’t know that game you should check it out, it’s great fun and led to awesome family entertainment.
Saturday Night
So we figured out the food issue by ordering from my favorite Mediterranean restaurant. I went with the brother in law after everyone was here to go pick it up. Way too much food by the way. After the eating and the sharing of a few adult beverages it was time to break out the Cards Against Humanity. We quickly decided 14 people was too many and split into teams. That helped moved things along and get even better answers. If you’ve never played the game you should. There are so many crazy answers you can’t help but just shake your head and laugh.
What was even more interesting was playing with 3 generations. From my father in law to my 18 and 20 year old nephews. And let me tell you there’s no shortage of sexually laced answers. That can get a bit uncomfortable with your father in law but it really didn’t at all. I know if I could not play that game with my parents! Just so you know how much fun it was here’s a picture. And yes that’s me with the open mouth.
Enjoy the Time
So I guess my point to this post is it’s great to have awesome family entertainment. I don’t think it needs to be complicated at all. It’s really all about just making the effort to create the time. We are all busy, it’s called having a life. The most important thing in life in my opinion is our relationships with others. Family is at the top of that list. Make sure you make the time for some awesome family entertainment. You’ll rarely regret it.
Here’s to family,
Mat A.
