  1. I worked in social services many years ago and had several clients who were clinically depressed. One thing I learned was management of your medication by a doctor is very important. You offered lot a great advice in this blog about how to recognize symptoms of depression and what to do when detected. Most people especially the ones close to you have a hard time accepting the notion that you maybe depressed. Seeking the consultation with a doctor to determine if a diagnosis is appropriate or not is important. I have friends who have a diagnosis tell me they would rather exercise everyday than to be on medication. This is their personal choice on how to manage their symptoms of depression. What do you think?

      Thank you for your thoughts, I really appreciate them.  In a word “YES”!!  I have seen on a personal level how hard it can be for someone that you are close with to admit they are suffering from depression.  Sadly it sometimes takes some extreme consequences or a real eroding of personal relationships or other factors in someone’s like before they finally admit they have depression and seek help.  I think medication can certainly help but am cautious about it being a long term solution.  I think there’s some real self work to be done to truly get to a better place.  Thanks again, Mat.
